Our story 💕

Founded in 2014 in Ōtautahi, Key Black is a New Zealand brand specialising in plus size clothing (sizes 10–26) designed to help women feel confident in what they wear every day.

Our approach is simple:
Style that works with your lifestyle, your body, and your existing wardrobe.

Created using fabrics from trusted local suppliers

Built around a concept wardrobe system, pieces that mix, match, and last for years

We also minimise waste by koha of fabric offcuts to another NZ business, where they’re repurposed into baby and toddler clothing.

Our Approach to Style

At Key Black, we guide you through three simple steps:

SHOP – timeless concept wardrobe pieces (no short-term trends) Basics, middle pieces, over styles. 

STYLE – your curves with the plus size personal styling service, using our Look Good, Feel Confident system, Or learn at your own pace through our online Style Studio, where mindset meets fashion and confidence.

RESET - clear the wardrobe, clear the mind. A step by step declutter and reset to remove overwhelm and create style confidence. Christchurch + surrounding areas in person, or learn at your own pace through our online Style Studio. ECourse - The Wardrobe Audit. 

A Note From the Designer

Kia ora, I’m Rachelle, one of the designers and founder of Key Black.

With over 20 years of styling women with curves, and as a curvy wahine who’s been many sizes over the years, I know that confidence can exist at every size, this is what I bring through in our stylings.  I’ve learnt that confidence doesn’t come from having more clothes, it comes from knowing how to wear what you have.

I created the Key Black concept wardrobe system to simplify style and make it work in real life.

Our Journey

We started with our Ōtautahi boutique and now we are an online store with wardrobe and styling services. Key Black has continued to evolve including winning the 'PLUS SIZE COLLECTION' award at Canterbury Fashion Week (2016). This was supported by our NZ made labels available at Key Black. You will find our pop up shop locations here.

Today, our styling systems are available worldwide through the Style Studio.
