Confidence as a Daily Practice
The Connection Between Fashion & Confidence: Blog part 1
Most of you know me as a personal stylist, but the part I love most about what I do is connecting with women and helping them feel confident, especially during our personal styling sessions.
The past 20 years of working with women I’ve found myself having very similar conversations with my clients who experience the same or similar things when it comes to their self esteem. This is how I turned from stylist to stylist / confidence coach. During these discussions I share things I've done to help myself and weeks or months later, I hear back that these same things have also helped some of the women I work with.
7 Things Stopping Women From Feeling Confident in Their Style
1.Body image and appearance. Often this is about being self conscious of body weight, size or body shape
2.The worry about judgement from others. I often see women not owning their style because they feel like they may stand out or look too different and others may judge them.
3.The struggle about celebrating the good things or the achievements - Self criticism
4.Comparing themselves to others
5.Not Feeling Confident in their clothes and unsure how to express themselves though fashion
6.Feeling overwhelmed with their wardrobe resulting in feeling like they have nothing to wear.
7.Not sure about the styles that suit their body shape
7 Ways to Start Feeling Confident in Your Style
1.Confidence starts when your clothes feel good on your body. Look for cuts and fabrics that move with you and highlight your favourite features.
2.The right outfit is the one that makes you feel amazing not the one that fits in.
3.Be kind to yourself the way you would a friend.
4.Your body, and your style are completely your own. Forget trends and what everyone else is wearing or what anyone else may think. Once you arm yourself with comfortable clothes that suit your body and lifestyle, this is when your style confidence and self confidence can grow.
5.If you’re not sure what suits you, start with what feels good. Experiment, play, and find pieces that make you feel like you.
6. Declutter the chaos. Keep only what fits, flatters, and feels like you. When your wardrobe works for you, getting dressed becomes easier.
7.Once you understand what works for your body shape, you’ll shop smarter, style faster, and feel more confident in every outfit.

Some other things that help me
Aside from fashion some of the things that help me & my confidence is by having a solid morning routine, it makes a massive difference to how I feel for the day and how my day goes. I’m not perfect every day but I now do this more days than not.
The reason we want to start with a morning that makes us feel good is because this feeling of good supports & sets you up to let confidence in. There are lots of things you can do, and here’s a bit of what I do myself.
A number of years ago I listened to a speech by Admiral McRaven & he spoke about making the bed when you get up, to have that first task complete and this leads to more tasks complete & since this day it’s the first task I complete.
I also add natural light while letting the dog out and sometimes a coffee outside followed by some music or a podcast. I avoid things like emails, social media and the news first thing in the morning and save things like this for later in my day.
The other part to my morning is exercise of some description & that can range from a 10 minute walk to a gym visit.
When I do this morning stuff, I can honestly say my day is firstly more productive and secondly it helps with my confidence and this happens because I feel more focused, and ready for whatever the day throws at me. The anxious “I’ve got so much to do” feeling doesn’t sneak in. On the days I skip it, I definitely notice the difference.
And then there’s the fashion side, which we dive into at The Connection Between Fashion & Confidence event because what you wear can seriously help that inner confidence. Discover confidence through fashion with Key Black.
